Nominations for 2014 Mississippi HR Awards

    by: Kyle Jones

It is time to nominate for the 2014 Mississippi HR Awards. Nominations are accepted from individuals on behalf of themselves or as a recommendation of another. As a previous recipient of the Mississippi Spirit of HR Award, I consider myself humbled and lucky to be amongst this group of human resource professionals.

Melissa Drennan, PHR, Mississippi SHRM State Council Secretary/Treasurer, provides the following information about the awards. Perhaps you are the next Spirit winner? Or, perhaps you might be the next Mississippi Human Resources Professional of the Year?

Mississippi Human Resource Professional of the Year Award

Mississippi Human Resources Professional of the YearThe Mississippi Human Resource Professional of the Year Award is presented annually to a SHRM member that has shown outstanding service and has promoted the profession of Human Resources in the state of Mississippi. The recipient should be an outstanding leader within and outside of his/her company.

The winner will be recognized at the annual MS HR Conference and Expo. During the initial opening of the conference, special recognition and a plaque will be presented to the winner. In addition, the winner will have the choice of receiving a donation made in their name to the SHRM Foundation in the amount of $500.00, or their registration and hotel accommodations paid for the next state conference.

    The Nomination Process

Nominations may be made on behalf of yourself or someone else you feel is deserving of the award. Be sure the written nomination contains sufficient information to allow the nomination chair to contact the person. A valid email address is very important, as this is our primary method of communication. Once nominations are received a follow-up packet will be sent to each nominee.

Criteria:  Nominees MUST meet the following criteria:

    ·         Current national SHRM member

    ·         Hold an HR related certification (PHR, SPHR, GPHR, CCP, CBP)

    ·         Actively employed within the broader HR Community

    ·         At least 8 years of HR related management/support experience in an exempt position

    ·         Involved (past or present) in chapter and/or state council affairs

    ·         Proven success in a leadership role

    ·         Displays enthusiasm and support for the HR profession

    ·         Applies professional experience both inside and outside his/her organization
